Laboratory furniture

The project included a food technology room, a science classroom and an art room. We completed the manufacture and installation of all fitted furniture throughout, including hardwearing solid grade laminate worktops, and also sourced all appliances, sinks and taps. Specialist furniture such as height adjustable work surfaces and cooking areas were also incorporated.

Fitted furniture

Each classroom in the school featured a kitchenette area with a sink unit, fridge, lockable base cabinets and wall cupboards. We designed the kitchenette system to fit into the alcoves provided and to accommodate the necessary M&E fixtures and fittings.

As well as the classroom kitchenettes, LiDR manufactured and installed units in the staff kitchen, laundry rooms, 16+ training flat and the parent’s dining room.

In the Early Years’ classrooms, a low level sink was incorporated, as well as an adult height sink.

Specialist and bespoke furniture

Staff at the school were eager to find a way to incorporate opportunities for sensory development and stimulation without having dedicated items of furniture that couldn’t be used for any other purpose. With their input, we developed some activity tables for classrooms and laboratory rooms which could be used as normal height adjustable tables, but lids could also be removed to reveal bowls beneath, which could be filled with activity objects.

To make serving food and drinks to children at mealtimes easier, we designed mobile serving units in consultation with the school staff. There are ample trays to store each child’s lunch items at a table, and the rail on the top means drinks can be transported without spilling or falling onto the floor.

The LRC was designed to be a feature area and focal point, with the bright colours visible from the main reception and foyer area through a large curved glass wall.

To complement the vision, we designed, manufactured and installed a custom built scheme including perimeter units, island display units, mobile book storage, big book storage, ICT desks and soft seating, all in keeping with the colours in the original scheme, with paints matched to specific pantone references.

Book storage units were customised to match the colour scheme.

Classroom furniture

LiDR developed multi purpose cloakroom units to utilise the space available.

As well as coat, shoe and bag storage, the units provide a place for children to sit if they need to. Different tray colours were used for each zone to co-ordinate with the building colour scheme.

Motorised desks were installed in every classroom, meaning that the monitors can be lowered down into the desks and the area used as a desk when the computers aren’t in use.

The result

From start to finish, we took on board the requirements and vision of the school and incorporated these into a range of different bespoke pieces of furniture.
